The Power Grip is a big matte black plastic exoskeleton for the Vita. The Vita snaps directly into the grip, with a small, locking block that slides into the bottom to hold it in place and connect it to the battery. Below the lock is a power light that indicates if the battery pack is actively feeding power to the Vita. To the left, a power port lets you charge the Power Grip, which also charges the Vita itself (the Grip automatically charges the Vita’s battery before charging its own). But since the connector is proprietary, you’re limited to using Sony’s connector instead of a generic USB cable. The grip adds to the bulk of the Vita, with its two large wing-like extensions making the handheld as difficult to put in a pocket as it is easy to hold.

The Power Grip for the PlayStation Vita might look like something that Batman would keep in his arsenal with its matte black boomerang-style design. However, the Power Grip is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. First, the design compliments the PlayStation Vita in every way. The matte finish matches that found on the back of the handheld, while every curve follows the Vita’s in order to maintain conformity to make the Power Grip look and feel like an extension of the device rather than just an attachment. It’s apparent Nyko put a lot of thought into the design to ensure that the Power Grip not only looks good, but looks like a natural component of the Vita and it shows.
